The following is a calendar of various meetings and hearings related to issues being worked on by GCI.

Information meeting for area clergy to learn about hurricane recovery efforts still underway in Galveston County, about resources for their congregations, and about how they can respond to needs in their communities.

Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 8:30 a.m. at Greater Barbour's Chapel Baptist in La Marque.

The Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) is seeking input on the method of distribution for $729,517,257 in Community Development Block Grant Supplemental Disaster Recovery Funds. This funding is the second allocation of disaster recovery assistance allocated to the HGAC region by the Texas Department of Rural Affairs. Written and oral comments regarding the Method of Distribution will be taken at two public hearings scheduled for the following dates, times and locations:

Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Greenspoint Marriott, located at 255 N. Sam Houston Pkwy East, Houston, TX 77060.
Wednesday, December 9 at 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Hobby Airport Marriott, located at 9100 Gulf Freeway, Houston, Texas 77017

Presentation of “Clearing the Fog”  Survey Results

In early 2008, several Gulf Coast Interfaith leaders along with other community members participated in a survey  conducted by Dr. Merle Lenihan, M.D, who trained  them in  the study protocols. The leaders then visited area health providers  to inquire about free or discounted care and ask for copies of their free care policies.  They also looked for any public postings of those policies or notices about where those policies could be obtained. Dr. Lenihan will present the findings of this study to leaders of Gulf Coast Interfaith and other community organizations and the media at our Thursday meeting at St. Vincent House.

Public hearings hosted by H-GAC to receive input on priorities for federal Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) disaster recovery funds, worth $93 Million. Three dates / locations / times:

TUES, JULY 7: 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm at the Galveston County Commissioners Courtroom, 1st Floor, 722 Moody, Galveston

WED, JULY 8: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon at the Brazoria County Commissioners Courtroom, 1st Floor, County County Courthouse, 111 East Locust, Angleton

THUR, JULY 9: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon at H-GAC's Conference Room A, 2nd Floor, 3555 Timmons Lane, Houston

Community meeting hosted by GCI to discuss the path to recovery from Ike. A panel of speakers will address concerns regarding all aspects of the continuing recovery effort. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions, voice their concerns, present their personal stories, and get information on where to go next with their personal obstacles to recovery. Two locations/dates:

TUES, JULY 21: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist, 7420 FM 1765, La Marque, Texas (across from LaMarque High School).

THUR, JULY 23: 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at Old Central Cultural Center, 2627 Ave M, Galveston, Texas.
